Promise Neighborhoods is an anti-violence and anti-poverty organization. We are black led, anti-racist, women centered, liberation based grassroots organization focused on community health and well-being. We take an epidemiology-based approach to address the systemic issues most affecting marginalized communities of the Lehigh Valley, including environmental health and justice.
One of our many programs, the Promise Corp, is a workforce development and environmental stewardship opportunity for aspiring young professionals that come from backgrounds that have been historically disenfranchised from careers in conservation. We are also part of the Delaware River Conservation Corp, a network of Corp organizations who protect the unique reaches and the mosaic of tributaries that comprise the Delaware River Watershed. Our stewardship operations include waste and pollution reduction, trail maintenance, parks management, food production and food sovereignty efforts.
We are proud to be one of the many esteemed organizations that make up the Coalition for the Delaware River Watershed. Through our combined efforts, we hope to offer a voice for the many who are disproportionately affected but often underserved when it comes to environmental issues. We recognize the necessity of unity and diverse management perspective that are the strength behind networks like the Coalition, especially as we see climate change primarily affecting our most vulnerable populations.
