The Coalition's steering committee is made up of 16 local, state, and national nonprofit organizations that span the entire Delaware River watershed.

Expectations of Steering Committee Members

  • Participate in monthly conference calls and annual in-person or virtual meetings. Alternates may be designated.

  • Serve on standing committees and ad hoc work groups as appropriate.

  • With input from Coalition members, working closely with staff, and utilizing the DEIJ Lens and Screening Tool, the Steering Committee will guide the Coalition's strategic goals and work plans, and approve membership and changes to the Steering Committee, among other tasks as appropriate.

  • The Steering Committee is committed to achieving diversity in race/ethnicity, geographical representation, organization size, and expertise among its members.

Qualifications that will enhance the effectiveness of the Steering Committee and Coalition, include:

  • Influence:  Can help the Coalition build power with key constituencies or sway decision-makers

  • Reach:  Able to convey Coalition messages to a large range of stakeholders/supporters and/or is actively engaged with a smaller, niche audience

  • Passion:  Capable of serving as an outspoken supporter of the Coalition’s mission and the watershed, willing to take action, and available to serve on one or more subcommittees or ad hoc work groups

  • Collaborative:  Willing to listen to others and build joint solutions across political boundaries and philosophies

  • Results-Oriented:  Known as being able to achieve results that further the mission of their organizations.

Steering Committee Term:

The term of Steering Committee members is six years, beginning January 1st of the first full year of a term. Upon acceptance of membership to the Steering Committee, an organization will appoint a primary representative to work on the organization’s behalf and identify any other individuals authorized to serve as an alternate in the event that the primary representative is unable to participate in a call or meeting. Upon conclusion of a term, Steering Committee members may voluntarily renew and resign their term.


Steering Committee Membership Application

Coalition member organizations that are interested in joining the Steering Committee should complete this application for consideration. Once submitted, Coalition staff will forward the application to the Steering Committee for review and evaluation.
