Greetings CDRW Community,
It brings me great joy to introduce myself as your new Member & Events Coordinator at the Coalition for the Delaware River Watershed. My name is Maria Castro (She/Her), and I am eager to collaborate with you all at CDRW.
Visiting the Delaware Water Gap as a child was always a highlight for me. I have always had a deep love for the outdoors, this is where I find true happiness in the tranquility of nature. In my free time, you can usually find me biking or hiking, exploring the natural world and all it has to offer.
I graduated from Montclair State University with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Chemistry. During my time as an undergraduate student, I was fortunate enough to work on several environmental research projects, specifically on soil and water quality. These research programs supported efforts and advancement of treatment for the conservation of New Jersey wildlife.
After graduation, I decided to go on a backpacking journey that eventually led me to travel cross country in a van. I explored as many national parks as I could and spent my days hiking and immersing myself in nature. This trip further solidified my passion for environmental preservation and conservation.
Prior to joining CDWR I worked in the environmental waste management industry as coordinator for various departments such as transportation, disposal, and Environmental Health and Safety. Through this experience, I gained insight into industry preventive practices for the preservation of the environment.
I am thrilled to be a part of the CDRW network and look forward to joining forces to advocate for environmental causes within the Delaware water basin. I’m excited to collaborate with all of you and make a positive impact in our community.
