Watching the Waters, a Video Introduction to a New Water Quality Monitoring Program

By: Alex Scilla, Founder/Director, NYenvironcom

NYenvironcom is a New York non-profit organization with a committed mission to help create, build, and strengthen thoughtful land use policies and practices that encompass environmental, community, and economic values. NYenvironcom believes that it is important for all segments of communities (residents, project applicants, municipal boards, officials, and business members) to have a practical understanding of local ecology, and sufficient data to make informed land use decisions.

WaterInsight is NYenvironcom initiative that trains residents on do-it-yourself water data collection methods to advance science-based preservation or remediation in land planning. This is particularly important in the Orange County area where community members are lucky to have a great trout river, the Neversink, and a sanctuary and recreation gem, the Basha Kill.

So kick back, watch the film, and come along with us to learn more about our WaterInsight active water quality monitoring program. Join our volunteers, see the waters, and follow us as we work and watch.

We’re happy to announce that WaterInsight has been fully funded for 2021, thanks to our generous supporters The Bank of Greene County, the Basha Kill Area Association, The Foundation for Sustainability and Innovation, and the Orange & Rockland Community Investment Program. This means we’ll be bringing 3 new stations online this summer, extending our monitoring along the Neversink before it meets the Delaware in Port Jervis.
