New Jersey Coalition Members Hear from DEP and the Legislature About Efforts to Address PFAS in our Waterways
CDRW’s New Jersey members have been busy the last couple of months. We had the opportunity to hear from both the Department of Environmental Protection and NJ Assemblyman Brandon Umba about ongoing efforts to address the impact of PFAS in New Jersey waterways.
PFAS, short for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are manmade chemical toxins that pose a significant threat to public health, water quality and wildlife. PFAS have been linked to severe human health impacts, including cancer. These substances are present in many of the products that we use in our everyday lives and they have been found virtually everywhere, from the Arctic to the Delaware River.

The heart of the Delaware River Watershed beats strong, and this year, it pulsed with vibrant energy as conservation enthusiasts, experts, and advocates from all walks of life gathered in Wilmington, Delaware, for the 11th Annual Delaware River Watershed Forum. Hosted by the Coalition for the Delaware River Watershed in partnership with the National Wildlife Federation, this two-day event, held on September 28-29, 2023, was nothing short of extraordinary.
11th Annual Delaware River Watershed Forum Unites Hundreds of Conservation Advocates, Constituents, and Organizations in Wilmington, DE
Wilmington, DE — The Coalition for the Delaware River Watershed (CDRW), supported by the National Wildlife Federation, held its 11th Annual Delaware River Watershed Forum in Wilmington, DE, on Thursday, September 28th and Friday, September 29th. More than 300 watershed advocates attended the event, bringing together organizations and individuals spanning the four Delaware River Watershed states of Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania to collaborate and build capacity for environmental conservation throughout our region.
EPW Committee Advances Delaware River Basin Conservation Act of 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee voted to advance the Delaware River Basin Conservation Act of 2023 by a voice vote. The legislation, introduced by EPW Chairman Tom Carper (D-Del.), would reauthorize the Delaware River Basin Conservation Act (DRBCA) through September 30, 2030, and make it easier for small, rural, and disadvantaged communities to engage in restoration projects.
Coalition Partners Oppose the Diversion of Game Commission Funds Proposed in PA Budget Bill
Pennsylvania's state budget is more than two months overdue. The House is not expected to return to session until September 26, which is when they will review House Bill 1300 - the fiscal code bill passed by the Senate earlier this summer. Unfortunately, as currently written, HB 1300 proposes to transfer $150 million in funding from the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) to the Clean Streams Fund (CSF) for fiscal year 2023-24.
