Manayunk’s stretch of the Schuylkill River has undergone extraordinary change. Once written off as almost dead, the river has been ecologically reborn, and once-industrial buildings along the banks are busily being repurposed for residential use.
As part of the regional River Days celebration, Executive Director Mike Weilbacher is joined by Kay Sykora, founder of Destination Schuylkill River, on a kayak tour of the Schuylkill’s Manayunk waterway. Paddling from the Pencoyd to Manayunk bridges, we’ll see—and learn the stories of—mills, locks, bridges and the canal, using old maps and photos to tell the story of Manayunk and its beloved river.
