The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Council (DNREC) and the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays are hosting the 6th Annual Introduction to Living Shorelines Workshop!

The revamped 2019 workshop focuses on designing projects for specific goals and begins with an introduction to the science behind living shorelines with a follow up on creating functional designs.

Day one of the workshop participants will learn about the causes and types of shoreline erosion, define the habitats which are affected by shoreline erosion, and understand the key elements to create a sustainable habitat for the plants and wildlife that call these areas home. Day two of the workshop will delve into site evaluation, designing for the goal, living shoreline materials, and permitting. Over the course of the two days, participants will also experience hands-on activities such as group projects and field visits.

This workshop is geared towards practitioners, engineers and landscape architects who intend to incorporate natural shoreline stabilization tactics into their repertoire. It is free to attend, and lunch is provided. While anyone is able to attend, participants must attend both days of the workshop, and preference is given to participants who work within the State of Delaware.
